In Chocobo Racing, you can race a Chocobo and various characters from the Final Fantasy world, including Cloud and Cid from Final Fantasy VII, as well as characters created specifically for the game, at high speeds through many different fantasy worlds using a selection of weapons. The game supports races for 1 and 2 players
Story
Chocobo Racing is based on themes and elements from Final Fantasy I to VIII. The story mode is narrated by Cid and consists of nine chapters in the form of a pop-up book with FMVs. To progress, the player must defeat the respective challenger of the chapter. Before each chapter, the player has the option of watching the story or skipping the race, except when playing the story mode for the first time. Characters The cast of Chocobo Racing is made up of recurring creatures and characters from the Chocobo's Dungeon and Final Fantasy series. Eight characters - Chocobo, Mog, Golem, Goblin, Black Mage, White Mage, Chubby Chocobo and Behemoth - are available immediately, and additional secret characters such as Cactuar, Bahamut, Cloud, Aya and Squall can be unlocked after completing the story mode.[5] Story The first chapter, titled "Gadgets a go-go", begins with the inventor Cid presenting Chocobo with a pair of "Jet Blades" and offering to test race them on the track behind his lab.[13] After the race, Mog the Moogle comes by and asks Cid about the progress of the racing machine he commissioned. 14] Cid promises to bring the machine tomorrow, but later confides to Chocobo that he has forgotten it. 15] The next day, after handing his scooter to the doubting Mog,[16] Chocobo and Mog race. After Chocobo wins, Mog confronts Cid about his vehicle's poor performance, but Cid replies that Chocobo won because of the difference in their abilities (e.g., Chocobo's "Dash").[17] He explains that the secret to Chocobo's "Dash" ability is the blue crystal on his leg ring.[18] Mog thinks about his inferior "Flap" ability and decides that he wants a blue crystal too, so Cid suggests that the two of them go on an adventure to learn the secret of the blue crystal.[19] The two set off to uncover the secret of the Blue Crystal, meeting (and racing) many people along the way. When they reach Mysidia, the mages' village, a white mage there notices that all the companions have Magicite, which the companions had previously referred to as "Blue Crystals". The companions want to know the legend behind the Magicite shards. The White Mage agrees to tell them if they race her in the Floating Gardens and receive the story as a prize. After she wins, she tells them the legend: "There are Magicite shards scattered all over the world. It used to be one big magite crystal... But people kept fighting each other over it. So the founder of Mysidia, the great magician Ming-Wu, broke the crystal into eight pieces. He then scattered the shards to the four winds. He did this to ensure that the Magicite Crystal would be restored later when all eight pieces were reassembled."[20]
