Carnivores
Carnivores is a first-person shooter video game produced by Action Forms and published by WizardWorks Software in 1998. It is the first video game of the Carnivores series. The player takes on the role of a DinoHunt customer. At the beginning of a new game, the player must register a new hunter or continue with a saved hunter. The point of the game is to hunt dinosaurs to get trophies and earn points. Each dinosaur represents a certain number of points. A beginner hunter starts with zero points. As his points increase, he can hunt new dinosaurs on additional terrain with more powerful weapons. If the player is killed by a dinosaur, all points earned from that hunt are forfeited. The player must be picked up by DinoHunt to keep the points earned. A hunter becomes an advanced hunter when he has earned 100 points, and an expert hunter when he has earned 300 points. To start a hunt, the player must choose the location, the weapon, the dinosaur, and some hunting paraphernalia that will help the player but deduct the points in that hunt. Each location is unique, with different difficulties and terrains. The new hunter gets three areas, two more for the advanced hunter and a final area for the expert hunter, for a total of six locations. The locations include jungles and deserts, but also pyramids and an ancient temple. Next, the player must choose a dinosaur to hunt. A new hunter has a choice of four dinosaurs: Parasaurolophus, Stegosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus and Allosaurus. An advanced hunter gets the ability to hunt the Triceratops and Velociraptor. Only an experienced hunter can hunt the Tyrannosaurus rex. Harmless creatures like Moschops, Gallimimus and Dimorphodon exist in every level. They are worth zero points and can be killed with a single shot. The player must also choose a weapon that he/she can set to kill or stun for extra points. A novice player can only use a shotgun or a crossbow. A sniper rifle will be unlocked if you are an advanced hunter. Those who are hunting for the first time can use the observation mode to familiarize themselves with the dinosaurs' behavior and the different terrain.
Story
Carnivores is set in the year 2190. During a routine space exploration mission, the research vessel FMM UV discovered a planet with a climate suitable for human life. The new planet was code-named FMM UV-32, and during the initial exploration expedition, the planet was declared inhospitable for settlement due to its unstable terrain and large population of dinosaurs and other prehistoric reptiles. News articles about the planet led to a terrestrial company acquiring the rights to the planet and forming the DinoHunt Corporation. The company allowed paying customers to hunt dinosaurs on their planet.
