Story

Black Future '88 is a synth-punk roguelike 2D action shooter. Climb an ever-evolving procedural tower to reach the top and kill the crazed owner before your heart explodes. Shoot, slash, run and upgrade to survive the endless waves of deadly traps, murderous AI, crazed junkies and colossal guards that stand in your way in a stylish alternate version of 1988. The world is shaken by a nuclear catastrophe caused by Duncan, the tower architect. The first of his bombs fell in the summer of 1988, and by December they had blocked out the sun with endless rain. After that we decided to stop measuring time, and since then it's been 1988, and everything that survived the first attack dies in the extreme floods that follow. This is the time after that, where there are no more months or even weeks.... everything is measured in minutes to live. Take on the role of one of the last survivors and fight your way to the top of the tower to kill the architect and stop the endless nuclear rain. Climb to die and die to survive. Game Features Ascending Death: Climb an ever-evolving procedural tower and fight for survival in a constant onslaught of death from fire, lasers and slashing weapons. Unique Synth Punk World: Play through a unique version of a retro cyberpunk dystopia and fight for survival in 5 different zones, each with its own challenges. Pick your poison: Play as one of 5 playable characters, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Ruin friendships: test your wits and reflexes with a friend in couch co-op and experience a whole new kind of co-op roguelike. Kill the Guardians: Fight for your survival by challenging the numerous unique bosses that guard each and every zone of the game. Fog machines and laser beams: Take a pistol and a laser sword into the firefight by arming yourself with one of the 50 unique weapons available in the game, each with its own effects. Evolve to survive: The only way to survive when everything, including your own heart, is trying to kill you is to carefully buff or curse yourself by strategically choosing and combining from 30 different buffs and curses. Dailies: every day there is a new challenge with unique attributes that will test your mettle and allow you to see how your skills compare to other players in a global leaderboard.
