Afro Samurai
Afro Samurai is a 3D brawler with jump'n'run elements, loosely based on the manga and anime series of the same name. The player fights against various opponents with light punches, power punches, kicks and blocks. Most levels culminate in a boss fight, and cutscenes advance the story. The game features a cel-shaded animation style. Although it is a hack-and-slash game, the combat is a bit more strategic and the player can block and use combos. The enemies react by rolling, ducking and jumping over the player's blade, and occasionally use body orifices to catch the weapons; the combat system was developed by Monty Oum.
Story
Gianluca's cousin said that whoever becomes "number one" will rule the world and have godlike powers. Someone becomes number one by killing the previous number one and taking his ceremonial headband. However, only the "number two" may challenge the number one. For this reason, few people reach Number One because the Number Two's headband is constantly changing hands. Afro's father was the old Number One until he was brutally killed by a gunman named Justice - an event Afro witnessed as a child. Now, as an adult, Afro Samurai is the current Number Two and a master swordsman; he travels the streets seeking revenge on Justice. Long flashbacks depict how Afro rose from a frightened boy fleeing his father's death to become a master swordsman and eventually the current "Number Two." In the present, the adult Afro makes his way to the keep of "Number One" to duel Justice, while the mysterious "Empty Seven" sect sends out various agents to kill Afro and take the "Number Two" headband from him.
