The adventure starts in Tom's dream while he is asleep at school. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a platform game released in 1989 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The storyline is directly based on the book by Mark Twain. However, the characters in the game are characters from the book. The controls in this typical platform game consist of jumping and throwing stones. Dodge many obstacles like rolling barrels and defeat stubborn enemies like pirates, mice and even a giant squid.
