1943: The Battle of Midway
The game is set in the Pacific theater of World War II, off the coast of Midway Atoll. The objective is to attack the Japanese air fleet that bombed the player's American aircraft carrier, pursue all Japanese air and naval forces, fly through the 16 game levels, make your way to the Japanese battleship Yamato and destroy it. 11 levels consist of an air-to-sea battle (with a huge battleship or an aircraft carrier as the end-level boss), while 5 levels consist of a pure air battle against a squadron of Japanese bombers and a mother bomber to destroy. As in 1942, players control a P-38, and there are two buttons: one for regular attacks (with different weapons) and one for special actions, which either performs a loop as in 1942 or one of three special attacks that damage the plane. Unlike 1942, the player has only one life with a refillable energy meter. Destroying a complete formation of red enemy planes gives you a power-up, such as a health boost or a temporary special weapon that replaces the standard twin gun.
